Deniz Aygün Benba, Artist and founder
Inter-disciplinary artist has a background in painting.
She continued her creative career in performance art and culture management in Istanbul, Vienna, New York and Tokyo. Discovering the recycled t-shirt yarn she knitted a basket for her living room. Her Japanese rescue cats Pusheen, Frost and Coco fell in love with the basket!
And that's how the story starts!
Craft
Every basket starts from the center. It is the center of the universe, the beginning point of the knit. Every basket is a journey. We can't know exactly how the basket will look when it is finished. Some will be slim, some will come out softer or stronger depending on the recycled material that we use.
In every case, the basket is handmade with a cute pet in mind!
Sweet Dream Baskets in Business
Founded in 2019 in Tokyo, Sweet Dream Baskets began with a experimentation period to understand exactly what types of baskets would delight both pets and their owners.
After solidifying the assortment of products, Sweet Dream Baskets regularly hosted pop-up shops at Hiroo Plaza—one of Tokyo’s most exclusive neighborhoods—thanks to the kind support of Isono-san, President of Isono Real-Estate.
During the challenging days of the COVID-19 pandemic, Sweet Dream Baskets participated in Interpets, Japan’s largest pet trade show. In 2025, our baskets were featured at LaForet Harajuku, the country’s leading fashion and design department store.
Over the years, we have also collaborated with numerous pet shops across Japan, building strong connections within the pet and design communities.
We are super-exciting about launching our brand in New York in 2025!

What are Sweet Dream Baskets made of? Sweet Dream Baskets are hand-woven by crochet hook from recycled, cotton-based T-shirt yarn.T-shirt yarn? T-shirt yarn is a knitting medium made from the scraps generated during textile production. The yarn made from textile scraps is soft but still durable and suitable for crocheting.
